Remembering Prakash Mehra on his birth anniversary

 Bhubaneswar, July 13: Prakash Mehra was an Indian film director and producer who made significant contributions to the Hindi film industry. Born on July 13, 1939, in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, India, he played a crucial role in shaping the commercial cinema landscape of Bollywood.

Mehra began his career in the film industry as a production controller and worked on several films in the 1960s. He got his first break as a director with the film "Haseena Maan Jayegi" in 1968. However, it was his collaboration with the iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan that brought him widespread recognition and success.

In 1973, Prakash Mehra directed "Zanjeer," a film that proved to be a turning point in both his and Amitabh Bachchan's careers. The film established Bachchan as the "angry young man" of Bollywood and was a huge commercial success. This film marked the beginning of a successful director-actor partnership between Mehra and Bachchan, leading to the creation of several memorable films.

Some of the notable films directed by Prakash Mehra include "Muqaddar Ka Sikandar" (1978), "Laawaris" (1981), "Namak Halaal" (1982), and "Sharaabi" (1984). These films often explored social issues, showcased Bachchan's versatile acting abilities, and featured memorable dialogues and chart-topping songs.
