Leela Jose becomes one of India’s oldest women to attempt skydiving. Her fearless act inspires many to embrace life beyond age limits.

Dubai/ Bhubaneswar, Sep 23: Age is just a number — anybody can utter these words with confidence, but not all can justify it or prove it. However, there are people, who defy their age, physical limits, with mental toughness and their sole focus on fulfilling their dreams.

A similar story came to light, where a 70-year-old woman from Kerala showed the world that thrill and courage doesn’t have an age limit.

Leela Jose, a homemaker from Konnathady in Idukki, lived the moment of her life by skydiving from a height of 13,000 feet in Dubai. With this daring act, she has become one of the oldest Indian women to do so, inspiring many with her fearless behaviour.

In a conversation with Gulf News, Leela shared that the idea of skydiving has been a long-running joke among her friends, who never believed that she could actually go through with it. During a recent trip to meet her son in Dubai, Aneesh P Jose, she decided to turn her dream into reality.

At first, Aneesh dismissed her mother's request, thinking of it as a joke. But once he realised she truly meant it, he got in touch with the organisers. To the organisers' astonishment, the request for skydiving wasn't for Aneesh but for Leela, his mother. When she arrived there, she was calm, determined, and ready to plunge up.

On the day of the dive, she knew it was going to be unforgettable. “I had this strong urge to jump, so I stayed quiet,” she remembered. When her turn finally came, she gathered her courage, took the leap, and suddenly found herself gliding high above Dubai’s breathtaking scenery. “I saw the sea below me and thought, if something goes wrong, I’ll just jump into the water and swim. I know how to swim,” she said with a smile.

For her, the moment was magical. “The view was simply beautiful,” she shared. “It truly was an experience of a lifetime.”

In addition to this, Leela has thanked her late husband for encouraging her to do these adventures despite his own fears. “I’m just a homemaker. My husband was a very nice person,” she said, crediting her husband for these special experiences.

Leela also shared that skydiving is not the only adventure she has experienced, as she had earlier tried ziplining in Wayanad and paragliding in Fujairah.

Now at 70, she believes life should be embraced and celebrated at every stage. “I’ve raised two children and am blessed with two grandchildren. I feel I’ve lived a full life already, so whatever comes now is simply a bonus,” she reflected. “This is the time to enjoy myself, and there’s nothing left to fear.”

With a spark of youthful spirit, she added, “I’m even ready to go to space — why not? Dreams don’t come with an age limit.”
