Balasore, Sep 19: In a gruesome incident, a woman was allegedly beheaded by her husband in Chakuapal village under Raibania police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district following an alleged argument between the couple, police said on Friday.
According to the sources, accused Chandra Mohan Patra used a sharp weapon to sever her wife’s head completely. The woman, identified as Jayanti, died on the spot while Patra fled from the spot immediately after the attack.
Police seized the body for postmortem and launched a manhunt to apprehend Patra.

In another horrifying act of violence against women, one Sheikh Amjad, a resident of Buxi Bazaar in Cuttack, allegedly attacked his estranged wife in full public view at Pathan Mohalla under Balasore Town police limits here on Thursday afternoon.
The couple, reportedly living separately due to ongoing marital discord, were seen conversing on the roadside when a heated argument broke out. Eyewitnesses say Amjad suddenly pulled a knife from his pocket and slit the woman’s throat.
The locals quickly intervened, subdued Amjad, and handed him over to the police. The injured woman was rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital and later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she remains in critical condition. The entire incident was captured on camera, adding to the public shock.
The back-to-back incidents have sparked outrage and renewed calls for stronger protection measures for women across the state.
